Shock and Awe Journalism: How We Feed the Panic Machine

The outcry is universal. People want less sensationalism. Viewers demand more from their news other than fire, explosions, violence, and misbehaving of celebrities and politician. What do the people then receive? Shock journalism.

How can there be such a disconnect between what people say they want from their news outlets and what the news outlets offer? Are journalists so infatuated by the shock that they report on only the sensationalism without any regard to viewers? Or are there mixed signals from people demanding more newsworthy stories and what they eventually choose to view?

Economics of Journalism

Shock journalism is great for the news industry; it's inexpensive and quick to turn into a news story. Journalists can even use information from a previous story to create a news story to be aired at a later time. This recycling of news is ideal for journalists required to meet a 24-hour news cycle. Previous stories are restructured quickly and with little expense to the network, maximizing profits while still fulfilling the obligation of provided viewers with something new.

Sharing news among networks is also prevalent in the industry. While there is an appearance that journalists are battling one another to get the most exclusive story, notes, sound clips, and images are actually all shared in a "I'll scratch your back if you scratch my back" gesture. According to the University of Southern California-Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, collaborative partnerships commonly occur amongst news gatherers to extend financial resources. Journalists share information to ensure good favor with other journalists on the next event. This action limits the amount of coverage with all journalists using the same information.

Why Viewers Tune In?

The shallow, mass-produced shock journalism stories stimulate just enough interest to keep people captivated. Christopher Peterson and Martin E.P. Seligman, in the article "Values in Action (VIA) Classifications of Strengths," explain that as shock journalism intrigues a viewer, the story is incomplete. The viewer is left with an empty feeling. Rather than being turned away by such a draining story, the viewer acts in contrary; they are supplied with such limited information that they demand more. Journalists only report enough to keep viewers interested. Viewers are then coerced to incorporate their own analysis in an attempt to complete the story, but they're never satisfied because they don't have the real answers. When the viewer becomes an active participant in the new story, journalists are sufficiently doing their job in shock journalism. Viewers that are active participants signify a want for more, even though more will never be enough.

A recent example of shock journalism is the proliferation of Charlie Sheen in the news. After last year's accusation of threatening his wife, Brooke Mueller, with a knife, the actions of Sheen continue to dominate the headlines. Sheen's $500 thousand splurge on escorts and drugs, and his erratic behavior on the "Two and a Half Men" set has been well documented by journalists. A report on the troubles of a celebrity like Sheen is the ultimate example of shock journalism. People's interest is quickly grasped because it is a celebrity story; Sheen's troubles only encourage the viewers' attention. The reoccurrence of Sheen in the news supplies journalists the opportunity to incorporate past occurrences in recent news events. Viewers insist a resolution as to why Sheen, with so much money and popularity, is behaving in such a manner. Journalists continue feeding the viewer's intrigue with just enough information while supplying little resolution.

Shock journalism is a self-perpetuating engine that feeds off of human curiosity and want for every event to be resolved. Only when viewers realize that shock journalism offers nothing more than information scraps will journalists begin reporting a news story that is as in-depth as it is important.

The World's Third Largest Industry

If I asked you to name the third most profitable industry in the world, would you have the answer? Would you guess Hollywood, oil, or diamonds? Maybe a cash crop like sugar, coffee, or bananas would come to mind?

If you did, you'd be wrong. The truth is far from being as innocent as food, luxury, or entertainment.

The third most profitable industry in the world, lagging behind drug trafficking and arms sales, is human trafficking.

What is Human Trafficking?

This pandemic is defined as the sale and exploitation of humans for sex and prostitution, pornography, involuntary labor, and debt bondage. From 14-year-old prostitutes in Cambodia to poor Central Americans enslaved on farms in the US to child servants in rich Haitian households, it is one of the most far-reaching, unprosecuted, rampant issues we face as a global society.

How it's Done

Depending on the trafficking ring, the starting country, and the destination country, traffickers use a variety of tactics to enslave humans, including intimidation, lies, and manipulation. Some people are sold by family members for cash, others are seduced by promised modeling contracts, and still others are kidnapped on the street.

Trafficked humans are then indebted to their slave drivers for the amount of money used to bribe border officials, pay their families, and to repay the cost of their food, clothing, and shelter. Many are kept for months or years, suffering physical violations, such as beatings and rape, as well as emotional and mental abuse.

What You Can Do

Get informed. Though slavery is a massive industry growing at a rapid rate, the general population knows very little. Do research. Learn telltale signs that someone is being trafficked. Share information with others.

Advocate. There are a number of governmental and non-governmental organizations working towards eliminating this horrendous crime. Signing petitions, helping fundraise, and promoting organizations all help.

As September inches closer, we approach the ten year marker of one of the most shocking, painful blows that America has ever been dealt. Amidst the impending September 11th ceremonies and tributes, we will be called to remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of the American people on that day. Unfortunately, those military veterans and rescue volunteers also placed their long term health at risk, simply by breathing in the air at Ground Zero.
The dangers of asbestos are no longer a secret. Millions of servicemen and women have been exposed to the toxic substance over decades of US Military and commercial history. Yet those who played a part in the September 11 efforts, whether involved in rescue attempts or the clean up afterwards, may have been exposed to an extremely large concentration of toxic dust. Studies done shortly after the attack in 2001 showed that the collapsing of the World Trade Center did not only release asbestos into the air. the force of the explosion may have broken the asbestos fibers into irregularly minuscule pieces, making them difficult for the EPA to detect using average microscopic equipment. Therefore, when the EPA scanned fro dangerous levels of toxicity, their readings may not have been as accurate as they thought. According to experts from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, aerolization is easier if the asbestos particles are smaller. Thus, the fibers make it to the lungs or stomach more easily. According to their statistics, 70% of Ground Zero rescue workers have developed and will still develop alarming respiratory conditions because of exposure to asbestos and other toxic dust particles that clouded over the area.
If asbestos is inhaled or ingested, serious chronic illnesses, like mesothelioma or asbestosis, may ensue. Mesothelioma symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, and chest heaviness. Because these symptoms are common to many other illnesses, victims are often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed until the cancer has metastasized. By then, treatment is generally ineffective and life expectancy is short.
Besides mesothelioma, military veterans and rescue workers of Ground Zero are contracting asbestosis. Similar to mesothelioma, asbestosis is a scarring of the tissue of the lungs because of a buildup of asbestos fibers. This scarring prevents normal inhalation and exhalation, which in turn can cripple healthy muscle and brain functions. Unfortunately, rescue workers and military veterans who have experienced deteriorating lung function are showing little to no signs of recovery.
Witnesses claim that the New York City departments responsible for allowing evacuated New Yorkers to return to Manhattan disagreed on the level of health precautions that were necessary after the World Trade Centers collapsed. Manhattan residents were permitted to reenter the city, although the Office of Emergency management and the department of Environmental Protection disagreed on how safe that decision was.
Though the safety of workers and residents is still being disputed, it is important that military veterans and personnel, as well as rescue workers and volunteers, get screened for mesothelioma and asbestosis. Early detection makes treatment more effective and increases the life expectancy of those diagnosed. If asbestosis or mesothelioma symptoms are suspected, requesting a chest x-ray, MRI, CT scan, or PET scan could save the lives of those who risked theirs on September 11, 2001.

President Obama plans to reduce nuclear weapons in the United States

It appears that President Obama has the priorities of the United States mixed up. The economy is in shambles, and he seems to feel that we need a reduction in our nuclear arms. While Iran is building up their nuclear developmental plans, Obama believes we should be reducing our own. His stance is weakening our position in the eyes of the World. We do have a stance that we will never fire our weapons first, so to reduce our nuclear weapon cache only displays that we are willing to bow down to other nations, thus making us appear weak. This president seems to care not of the welfare of the United States citizens, all while trying to seem like a caring individual to the World. In my view, Obama is performing a disservice to us citizens. You thoughts?

Time and time again, I have heard the same problem from so many people; They are working hard simply to survive and make ends meet, and when they need a helping hand, such as free or reduced priced lunches for their children in school, they are denied. They are told that they are making too much money to qualify for the free lunch program. In other words; they need to be on public assistance.
I personally know a single mother of two, who works two jobs simply to scrape by. There are occasions when the need for a helping hand arises and she is denied any assistance at all, simply for having pride in herself and holding down two jobs. She refuses to quit her jobs simply to qualify for public assisted programs. All of us who work, pay for these services, yet when we need to dip into the pot from time to time for ourselves, we are refused help of any kind. What incentives are there for workers to remain working? It seems that we would all be able to afford housing and food if we all just gave up our jobs and sat on our asses collecting money from whatever programs are offered to us. I understand that there are situations that do require public assistance, and that working would be impossible for certain individuals, but there are plenty of able bodied persons who simply choose to not work.
Did you know that many states offer free cell phones and service to families on public assistance? Check with your state to see if your paying the cell phone bills of others. I have to pay for my talk time. I could get so much for free, simply by quitting my job and signing up for tax payer provided services. I would never do so however, simply due to personal ethics. The entire point of this article was that those who do work and need assistance once and awhile are denied and that just is not right. We pay and pay into a system that only others can benefit from. That's disgusting. Your thoughts?

BEWARE!!! If you receive a call from Brewer Micheals and Cain (888-774-1338) refuse to speak to them. They will start out with the usual speech; "Case number blah blah blah.." They will attempt to fool you in believing that they are a law firm with lawyers on the payroll. Do not allow their illegal tactics to scare you. They are simply debt collectors. Under no circumstances should you agree that you owe the debt that they are saying that you owe. Also, do not send them a dime. They will tell you that they will be filing motions in a court of law in regards to the debt in which they are calling in reference to. These are empty threats simply to scare you in sending them money. They have an address that is actually a UPS store in North Tonawanda, New York, between Niagara Falls and Buffalo. P.O. Box 217 North Tonawanda, New York 14120. They are constantly changing the name of their collection company in an attempt to avoid the authorities. They employ ex-cons and other unsavory types to make the collection calls. If you receive a call from them, send them a 'Letter of Validation' via certified mail. You can get a sample letter on the side of my blog here. If after they receive the letter and they persist their calls to you, file an online complaint with the New York Attorney General's office immediately. Plumbing and Heating issues? Don't let your money go down the drain

I have worked in the Plumbing and Heating trade for years; both in commercial and residential settings. I have witnessed many times, my employer(s) ripping off customers. I was extremely ashamed at this practice, although I refused to ever take part in it. If you are ever in need of plumbing and heating assistance, first research who you can trust more than others. Check with the Better Business Bureau and perhaps other homeowners who have utilized specific companies in the past. Below I will list immoral and/or illegal practices that I have witnessed during my time in the trade.

1. Charging you, the customer, for a permit that was never obtained. In many cities and towns, the law requires a work permit to be obtained before any work requiring a permit, is begun. In Anchorage, Alaska, for example, a permit is required when changing out a water heater. I have witnessed many water heaters being changed out, yet no permit on site. When inquiring with my employer to why a permit was not on the work premises, I was told that a permit was being obtained as we spoke. I can tell you that the permit charge was on the bill and presented to the unsuspecting customer, but no permit was ever seen by myself.

2. Parts costs. Here is where anyone not familiar with plumbing items can really be taken to the bank, so to speak. Lets say for example that you are having an issue with your baseboard heating. In this case, you are having either constant heat or no heat at all. Most plumbers or heating technicians will first check to see if there is 24 volts from your thermostat which powers the zone valve which controls the amount of hot water flowing through your baseboard. In 99% of full heating (full heating occurs on some power heads that open fully when it fails) or no heat calls (some power heads will completely close, ceasing any heat flow), it is due to a faulty power head which is the top part of a zone valve. The power head is relatively cheap, between 25-50 dollars, depending on brand and purchase location. However, some rip off companies will charge you for an entire zone valve, which consist of a power head and base. Now the price can be well over 100 dollars. The base also may not even be changed out by the dishonest technician or plumber, but the bill will contain that it had been. The best way to avoid being ripped off in this scenario is to purchase your own power head and and simply pay for labor only, unless you have the ability to install the new power head yourself, thus avoiding a potentially large bill from a plumber. Research online, any issue that you may be experiencing. Ask questions and even request that all parts be shown to you.

3. Travel Time. Some companies may charge you for the amount of time it takes for the plumber to travel from one job site to your location. Ask the company when you first call them whether or not they charge for travel time. In my opinion; they are not fixing your problem simply by stopping at red lights or getting a bite to eat on the way, so a customer should not be billed for travel time. Ask upfront.

4. I could go on and on with ways that a customer could be scammed, but the best way to avoid being monetarily victimized is to first see how feasible it is to do the job yourself and/or research the issue that you are having. Do not do work yourself when it involves combustible or hazardous(chemical)material. A trained professional is required in those cases. Visit your local plumbing supply stores and in most cases, an employee will point you in the right direction. If you have any questions about this post, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Further Asbestos Regulations Needed to Decrease U.S. Veteran Exposure

Utilized throughout the 20th century a major form of piping, insulation and flooring, asbestos is a fibrous mineral acclaimed for its fire resistant qualities. Manufacturers of the substance were aware of its toxic qualities but continued shipping the product anyways, leading to millions of employees, military veterans and homeowners exposed to the substance. Asbestos appeared on most vessels used by the Navy and in shipyards.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs stated that out of the 25 million military veterans living today in the country, hundreds of thousands were exposed to asbestos while on service. Evidence demonstrates that any information regarding the toxic components of asbestos was swiftly covered up. While the military created one of the most formidable and intense Navy fleets in the world, asbestos concerns were silenced during that time.

Although not all cases of asbestos exposure can lead to a related illness, consistent exposure will definitely increase those odds. The inhalation of airborne asbestos fibers can cause severe forms of asbestos lung cancer such as asbestosis and mesothelioma. Many symptoms of mesothelioma are similar to other disorders, making it especially difficult for physicians to diagnose. The amount of asbestos-related incidents throughout the world has resulted in mesothelioma lawyer firms advocating and protecting victim’s individual rights. Many are unaware to the wrongdoings done in the contraction of diseases associated with asbestos.

As many as four million service men and women worked in shipyards repairing and building giant vessels. Thousands of tons of asbestos were used as piping and boiler insulation aboard navigation rooms, sleeping quarters and mess halls in ships.

Current Exposure Threats & Fair Compensation

United States combat troops have been stationed in Iraq and face many extreme dangers on a daily basis. Aside from performing military operations, there is the potential threat of asbestos exposure. Over $194,000 worth of asbestos was imported into Iraq in 2003, documents reveal.

This presents a significant hazard for all soldiers stationed in the country because intense winds and desert sands can carry asbestos dust for long distances.

The Asbestos Alliance, a business coalition pushing for legislation, is dedicated to ensuring victims of asbestos products are fairly compensated. The alliance is also hoping for additional assistance from Washington politicians to keep defendant firms financially stable so victims claims are successfully paid out.

Military veterans and civilians who have developed an asbestos-related disease find themselves in a tough situation when attempting to receive assistance and benefits for their wrongful illness. Currently, mesothelioma is not readily recognized as a service-related medical ailment. However, veterans can apply for Veteran Affairs (VA) benefits for asbestos-related illness and must provide proof that their exposure occurred at the time of their military service. The potential remains for another generation of veteran and civilian asbestos exposure. Individuals should be aware of the hazards involved with this obsolete substance and take the proper initiatives to avoid exposure.

Isn't it astounding to see that our government turns a blind eye to the average American, working hard to put food on the table? While that same government will take our money and hand it out to save the banking community and large corporations, in the name of saving the American economy? If the banks and corporations are going to use our money to save themselves, then I ask that every American who owes on a credit card have their debt eliminated to zero. Thats an even trade. We help them, and they help us. However, that isn't the case. Not only will they use our money to keep them from going under, but they will also keep taking our money through credit card bills and interest rates. I ask all Americans to contact their state's Attorney General and demand that all credit card debt be placed at a zero balance in exchange for us bailing those large, greedy banks out. The government of the United States, by Law was to always maintain a three year mixed- grain survival storage for every man, woman, and child in the United States.

Like most Laws of the land, the politicians never took heed as to why our wise ancestors had this reserve requirement established. It was to make sure, that, in the time of a National Emergency, the people had the most important mainstay needed for survival individually and as a Nation.

Remember, the people make the Nation, the Nation does not make the people.

In the 1960's and 1970's the different political administrations of Washington, D.C. walked away from sanity and started to give the surplus grains which where in elevator storage all over the country, to other nations, such as the Soviet Union, India, etc.. This continued over two decades, until the elevators were empty and the reserve of grains that were in reserve as per a national crisis....were gone. Of course this was done as to inhance international "friendship" with other nations, even if those other nations were self-admitted enemies of the United States.

Remember, there was enough grain in storage, paid for by the American tax-payer, to last the masses inside the United States for three full years, if need be. But now it all is but gone!

By 1996, the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) claimed that there was enough food in ware-house storage to last every man, woman and child in the cities a 3 day supply and a 5 day supply for every man, woman, and child in the countryside, should a great national emergency occur. In other words, if food trucks stopped running, the food supplies for the masses would be 3 days in the cities and 5 days in the countryside.

In 2003, the U.S.D.A. stopped measuring for "days in reserve" of food for every man, woman, and child in the United States because the amount of food in storage in the United States dropped under a 1 day food supply for every man, woman, and child in the United States. Thus, the U.S.D.A. started to measure in individual pounds as to how much food was in the food-chain per person in the United States as per 300 million people.

In 2003, there was 77 pounds of food per person in the warehouse food-chain in the United States. What this means, is that during a national emergency, only 77 pounds of food per person is available before all food is TOTALLY GONE in the United States.

By September of 2005, there is now only 15.7 pounds of reserved foodstuffs in the food-chain for every man, woman, and child in the United States. This means that there has been an 80% decrease in the past two years. That decrease is becoming greater with every passing day in the United States. Of the 15.7 pounds of warehoused reserved food-stuffs, 11.0 pounds of the 15.7 pounds consists of unprocessed wheat. The rest of the 15.7 pounds of survival foods in storage for every man, woman, and child, totaling 4.7 pounds, consists of the following foods:

1. Non-fat dry milk 2. Cheese 3. Corn by the bushel 4. Peanuts by the pound 5. Lentils by the pound

That's it folks ! . . . This is what the District of Columbia has set aside representing the 15.7 pounds in the survival food-chain for every man, woman, and child to stay alive on. This is not a daily supply, this amount represents the total food everyone will get for ....how long, who knows!

The U.S.D.A. Crop Production Report per September 12, 2005, contained said information, and this information was brought forth by Alan Guebert of the Farm & Food Report.

Collective communist farming failed in the Soviet Union and communist China, and the present form of Collective Farming (paying the farmers not to grow food) has totally failed in the United States.

Mr. Guebert also stated, that one more disaster as the likes of the hurricanes Katrina or Rita against the United States, or anything to compare to such in whatever way, would create such a food panic, it would make the New Orleans rioting look like the Mardi Gras.

The United States Government for the past 75 years has been driving the United States deeper and deeper into the realm of communism. The United States is financially broke, the farms are broken down, the Nation has been de-industrialized, and the outsourcing of jobs continues to this day. Both corrupt federal administrations, the Democrat and Republican eat off the same plate. They have labeled that plate; "Screw the taxpayer, each and every one of them."

Our European ancestors were very wise, honest and full of common sense. They had food cellars where they had food canned, that could last themwell over a year, insuring them that they would be able to plant a crop the following summer, and still be able to survive waiting for crops to mature and harvest. They did not rely on the corrupt politicans who are liars and thieves.

But as I said, time passed by and the people put a false trust in their elected and appointed public servants thinking that these same people were looking out for their personal interests. How sadly wrong the people were then, and still are.

In conclusion, I highly suggest that you pull your head out of the sand, check your food supplies, and if you do not have 6 months to a years food in reserve, then you had best sell something or do whatever you have to do, to immediately prepare yourself and your loved ones for safety. If you can store two years at this time: DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Remember, the 15.7 pounds of food in reserve is becoming less by the day, and at the present rate of speed, the United States is heading to what is called.... meal to meal. One more major disaster will drive the United States to its knees.

The federal government, for itself, has millions of tons of preserved foods stashed away in underground storages, but this food is not for the masses, unless they surrender their firearms, and then they will get a food coupon from the *feds* to buy out of the federal government food warehouse wherever it is set up in your area.

Remember, FOOD CONTROL IS PEOPLE CONTROL, and this same plan is being laid out laid out against the masses in the United States by COMMUNISTS in both the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States. Stop local news bias towards candidates

During my time as a candidate for the Anchorage Assembly, the Anchorage Daily News went out of their way to omit candidates who filed the 'Exempt' form with APOC. I, along with two other candidates were deemed "uncompetitive" by ADN due to my refusal to accept contributions, and the two other candidates expected to raise less than $5,000 for their campaigns.
In their candidate endorsement story, they excluded us from the entire article. For example; My opponents, Bill Starr and Janet Brand were pictured, interviewed and then a story on why they did not support Starr, but why they supported Brand. On the ADN website, they kept their reason for the exclusions no secret. They explained that they acted based upon how much money a candidate raised. This is disgusting.
The media in our town need to remain objective and give equal time to ALL candidates; even if they choose to not raise thousands of dollars or become a puppet to the special interests. The voters have a right to the complete story, and not only what the Anchorage Daily News feels that they should know.

I wish to thank every person who made it out to the ballots, and casted their vote for me. I would have loved to see the outcome if the other 80% of voters exercised their right to vote. This election actually displays a lot of promise for future elections. I used less than four-hundred dollars of my own money on my campaign, as opposed to 20,000+ dollars by other Eagle River/Chugiak candidates. I had no radio, television or newspaper advertisements, and yet managed to rake in 12 percent of 6331 votes. My campaign consisted of 50 signs and talking with citizens. That was all. I am adding an article that I had written two days before the election, and thought that I would share it with you all:

The views of a first-time candidate (this was written before the election)

I entered this election with the main goal of bringing government back into the hands of the people, and removing the control from the big money, special interests groups. I soon realized after filing for candidacy that those same big money groups want to know if they will endorse you in your campaign. The calls and emails began coming in. "We would like to interview you." or "would you like to seek our endorsement?" I have no problem with endorsements, but would not accept a dime from anyone. When I told these prospective endorsers, that I would gladly accept their endorsement, but would not accept contributions, I was dropped like a hot potato. They seem almost offended that I would not allow myself to be a puppet and accept their money. I discovered that a candidate who will not accept contributions from special interests, is treated like a leper. They won't touch you even with the Grinch's 39 and-a-half inch pole. The calls and emails ceased.

Then came the infamous "butt dialed" cell phone conversation between Dan Coffey and Bill Starr. Loyalties are so easily shifted. All at once, the avalanche of calls and emails began coming in. "We would like to interview you for a possible endorsement" and "would you like to seek our endorsement?" This was deja vu all over again. How curious that I was an outcast to big money groups when I declined contributions, but I was now looked at as a purebred who was sure to win in the wake of a released private conversation. I ignored them. I was also getting calls and emails from some media outlets, wanting me to comment on the Coffey-Starr conversation. I wanted no part of it. It isn't in my nature to kick someone when they're down. In my opinion, to kick someone when they are down gives great insight into that person's character. I took the high road.

In the end, I can lay my head down at night, and feel good about myself. I couldn't be bought by even the "elite" population of Anchorage. Contributions are basically borrow now, pay later. Silent agreements, with the money exchanging hands as the binding factor. The pay later, however, is paid through one's voting practices on the Assembly. Remember, that nothing is given without wanting something later in return. That is a very sad state of affairs. All in all, my wish was to serve the common person. The hard-working Alaskans who have no real representative or voice.

There were a few media outlets who utilized their public forum to endorse candidates and omit those who either refused contributions, as I did, or filed the 'exempt' form with the Alaska Public Office Commission (APOC). The candidates who filed the 'exempt' form were deemed "uncompetitive" in their campaign for public office, per the Anchorage Daily News. There you have it; to refuse contributions, in order to display that one wishes to serve all of the citizens, rather than special interests, exhibits traits that a candidate is not competitive, at least through the eyes of the Anchorage Daily News. I understand that certain media seek those candidates who they believe better suit their political and ideological agenda, but where do we draw the line? How can we, as the voting public, ensure that we are being given the whole truth by our "fair and balanced" Alaskan media outlets? We shall return to this particular topic another day.

I wanted to bridge the divide between the citizens and our government, who really seem to be in it for themselves and the special interests, rather simply to serve the people, and nothing more. Perhaps, one day, when the citizens truly get fed up, it will reflect on the ballots. Until then, we will vote in those who raise the most money and are peeking out of the pocket of special interests. The way that our government operates now is shameful, and who do we blame? We can't blame those who we vote into office, since we are given choices. We can only blame ourselves when we are constantly ignored by those who we voted to represent us, and the corruption reaches a level to which the F.B.I needs to come in and clean our house for us. The only advice that I can give is this; Next time you vote, vote for the candidate(s) who refused contributions or raised contributions from individuals. I believe that is where you will find the one genuine person who will treat everyone as their constituent and not just the "elite".

I challenge all future candidates to take a stand against the puppet masters of our elected leaders, and refuse all special interests contributions for your campaign. Show them that you are not entering for the best interest of big money, but rather to serve the common, hard working Alaskan. I also urge the citizens to demand all candidates to refuse contributions from special interests. If they turn their back to your wishes, than make your vote reflect your disdain on all election days, from here on out. Take back control of our government.

Many times has a young person knocked on my door, seeking to sell me some magazines. I already know that I can not be talked into buying a subscription, so I immediately tell them "no". They seem forceful and borderline harassing in their over-bearing sales technique, and perhaps that is due to fear. Fear of those who 'employ' them. I define abuse by a collection company to be behavior that is covered by the Fair Debt Collection Act. These laws were created to give the consumer, you and I, some protection from collectors who utilize tactics that harass or intimidate alleged debtors. Although this Act was enacted, there are still thousands of collection companies that have total disregard for laws. Consumers are being threatened with arrest if the payment is not received within a short time frame. Collectors are revealing a debt of a consumer to third party individuals, such as the consumer's co-workers or supervisor. Collectors are threatening wage garnishment and accusing people of committing a whole array of white collar crimes. Did you know that there are countless collection companies operating illegally due to not possessing a license to collect in the state in which the consumer resides? Lets say for example; that you live in Alaska, and a collection company from Florida calls you in regards to a debt. That company MUST be licensed and registered to collect in your state. They may have a license for Florida, but they are not licensed in Alaska. If this occurs, then they have just committed a crime. So, in the future, simply ask for their license number in the state that you are living in. If they do happen to give you a number; say simply that you will be checking to see if that license number is on file with your state. Then tell them that you will call them back to discuss the debt if the license number turns out to be legitimate. I will give you an example of a collection company that is located in Jacksonville, Florida. They are currently being sued by the Florida Attorney Generals Office for thousands of complaints against them. The majority of complaints? Illegal collection tactics. They threaten to have consumers children taken away. They accuse a person of committing crimes, and release debt information to fellow employees and bosses of the consumer. They were using these illegal tactics, all while not being licensed for any state out of Florida. I, along with a handful of other consumer advocates, have corresponded with a reporter for the Jacksonville Times-Union in regards to this crooked company, and soon enough, the media began covering this company, while the Attorney General was tying up the loose ends on this case. They now owe 1.3 million dollars to consumers who they extorted and violated. The company originally had a name of Jackson & Associates, but then changed it to Bass and Associates. You should also know that the burden of proof is on the collection company that you in deed owe on a debt. They must provide you a full validation of the debt, before you are ever expected to pay. Anyone can call you and say that you owe money, and how else would you know if the debt is valid? In some cases, the debt does not even exist or the debt has expired(Statute of Limitations or SOL). One industry that utilizes illegal collection companies is internet payday loans. I'll provide a link that covers that aspect at the bottom. If you ever receive a call from a collection company, and they utilize the above tactics, be sure to file an online complaint with the Attorney Generals Office in your state. You can also file a complaint with the AG of the companies state, because most crooked companies are already known to the Attorney General. Most people do not sit around worrying about the things that they can not see. I too, do not spend much time contemplating the micro-organisms that thrive in perfect harmony within our own digestive tract or the microbes that would create World War 3 within our bodies, if they were to gain entry. Every so often, nature reminds us that we are not master of the Universe, and not with events that are seen with the naked eye. Nature seems to utilize the smallest forms of life to snap us back to reality. One day you get the sniffles, and the next day, you are bleeding from every orifice. That is just one effect of some of these little monsters. Humans develop a vaccine or antibiotic, and soon enough, these resilient creatures find a way to adapt and overcome our latest medical achievements. Our bodies possess small, natural defenses of it's own, but in some cases, these soldiers are not strong enough, and are actually turned against us. The worst kind of infections, are the ones that can be contracted through the air. A cough or a sneeze can send millions of spores into the air, ending up in the lungs of numerous people who happen to be unfortunate to breath it in. Is the Globe actually warming?

I was going to stay away from this topic, but since the recent awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, to Al Gore, I had to chime in. Global Warming and Global Cooling are events that took place since Earth began it's orbit around the life giving Sun. The continents drift, volcanoes erupt, and seasons change. Ice Ages came and went, while adaptable creatures survived, leaving the species who did not adapt, to become extinct. This has been happening for billions of years, and mankind has only graced the surface of this planet for a mere hundreds of thousands of years. Our time here is not even a blip on the historic radar of this planet. Dinosaurs lived for millions of years and then died off. The mammoths and saber-toothed tigers also were roaming the lands for unfathomable time. We do know, from geological research, that this planet has undergone numerous, and countless environmental changes. Who caused the global warming and ice ages before we arrived on the scene? There was no emissions or nuclear testing 1 million years ago. There was no oil drilling, or millions of vehicles on the roads. Who caused the planet to be encased in ice for thousands of years, only to give way to a tropical and life abundant environment? Mankind must think we are all powerful, able to control all aspects of life. One day, long after man is extinct, who will take the blame for the changing climates then? The climates will change, and the planet will turn on it's axis, as it always does, on IT'S schedule, not ours. The only reason that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded, was to fuel this propaganda that we cause global climate change. I feel that Al Gore is sincere in his beliefs, but he is wasting his time. Even the public schools are teaching that Global Warming is our doing, without any proof. When I was in school, we were being taught that the Earth was cooling. Go figure. The feminization of American men

Do you remember playing dodge ball in elementary school? I used to love that game. It was a free-for-all. Hit as many people that you can with the ball, hoping that it wasn't caught by your target. Ask a student today if they play dodge ball, and they will either say that they never heard of it, or they will simply tell you that it is not allowed to be played at school. Why has the American educational system 'outlawed' dodge ball in our children's schools? It is to place everyone on an even playing field. It is to undo any natural competitiveness in boys. Which is not much different than the "No child left behind" Act, but I'll save that topic for another time. Anyway, it is to slowly, and methodically feminize the boys in this country. Why would feminizing boys be an agenda for our government? The simple answer is this; This country was founded by men who ate tyranny for breakfast, because these were men with strength and conviction, and were willing to die while fighting for their freedoms. If the government can slowly remove the fighting spirit in boys, they will grow up to follow the path of least resistance, and simply give in when someone tramples their liberties. How do you think the men in this country would react, if suddenly, a law was enacted which stated, "All Americans must have a microchip implanted into their skin for identification purposes". Do you think that most men would take to arms to defend our freedoms, or do you think that they would sit around and whine about the infringing upon our rights, and do nothing? I am sad to say, that I feel most men would do nothing, and allow the law to control them. Another tactic utilized in most schools, is the "zero tolerance" policy. Basically, if your child is being hit, he or she is not allowed to defend themselves. If your child defends themselves with equal force, both children are penalized. Does that even make sense? It does if you see this policy for what it truly is; A method to take the fight out of our future men, to ensure compliance of the American population when our freedoms begin shrinking. Customer service is sub-standard these days

Today, I visited a fast food restaurant, in hopes of enjoying a meal, only to leave angry and extremely dissatisfied. This was my first and last visit restaurant, and I will tell you why. My order number was 88, so when they called out for 88, I, along with two other customers answered. There were three customers, including myself, with the same order number. This created confusion amongst the employees, and created a level of dissatisfaction for us consumers. I watched as my food sat under a heating lamp, and the ice cream melted on a counter. There were actual insects, dead insects, with wings, lying precariously in mass, on top of the two ice cream dispensing machines, over the serving cups and bowls, awaiting to fall into an unsuspecting customers cold treat, disguised as a chocolate chip. I brought this health violation to the attention of the manager, and he lied right to my face. He stated; "Those aren't bugs, those are cake crumbs." I said,"crumbs with wings?" I made damn sure that the other customers witnessed the insects and there was no denying that the "crumbs" were dead insects. The manager made no attempt to address the clear unsanitary condition that existed only a few feet from the observing line of customers, who were now sharing their disdain with one another. Whispers of bugs over the ice cream machines were heard throughout the store, and with good reason. I should say, I did not see one employee that could have been older than twenty years old in this establishment, and there in lies the problem.
Today's breed of young workers, in general, are lazy and lack basic respect, as well as have poor work ethics. I lost count how many times I am greeted by a cashier, while they carry on a conversation on a cell phone, only to look at me as if I interrupted their chat with causing them to take my order. How about the cashiers who don't know how to make eye contact when they ask; "what can I getcha?" Or the employee that has no idea how to even fake a smile when greeting you?
I was visiting one fast food store, McDonald's, and there were no clean serving trays available, so the manager, probably twenty years old or so, decided to serve all customer's orders in 'to-go' bags. The dirty trays laid stacked on the garbage cans, and not one employee took them to the kitchen to have them washed. I looked around at all of the people at the tables, and they all had these 'to-go' bags, rather than a serving tray, and the customers were not in very good spirits after witnessing the lack of customer service. Almost every customer was displaying some sort of dissatisfaction at the level of service being provided. I should share with you, that this particular restaurant is notorious for being poor in almost every aspect of the business. One time, I sat in the drive-thru for twenty five minutes, and there were only three cars ahead of me. This McDonald's is the worst fast food restaurant that I have ever been to in my life, and I have been to many, even in Asia. You would think that when a customer is made to wait beyond what is acceptable, that the employee would at least apologize or acknowledge the wait, but they proceed as if nothing is out of the ordinary.
Why do the young employees of today provide such lousy, sub-standard customer service? My theory is this; We, the consumers accept it, and therefore the behavior continues. We need to start taking a stand against this blatant disrespect of the customer, and if the complaints are not addressed by management, then boycott the stores. Share your dissatisfaction with everyone. Bad customer service will only disappear when consumers voice their disdain. Don't leave a store silently seething about poor customer service; make it known, even to other customers, because I am sure that you are not alone in your thinking. We provide money for a certain level of service, and if we don't get what we paid for, then the only way to change it, is to no longer give them your money. Your thoughts?

Anyone who drives understands, that in the United States, car insurance is mandatory. The laws establish that every vehicle on the road must be insured with some sort of insurance, with the minimum being liability. Now, lets say that you are 40 years old, and you have driven for 20 years, and have never been in an accident. When does all of that accident free time reward you? Sure, you may make lower payments as the insurance company's reward to you, but is that truly a reward? I don't think so, in fact, I think it is a very small exchange for the years of making the insurance company's pockets fuller and fuller of your hard earned money. I feel that if car insurance is enforced by the laws, then drivers should be entitled to roll overs, meaning that if you do not have an accident in five years, then year six should be free. It isn't much for the driver, who has paid out thousands of dollars over the past five years, but it's something better than the system we currently possess.
Did you know that certain insurance companies have donated speed radars to some police departments in the United States? That's right; the more tickets given to motorists, the fatter the pockets get for the insurance company. When you report a traffic ticket to your insurer, they may seem concerned or dismayed for you, but when you leave their office or hang up the phone, they secretly celebrate, because your ticket means more money for them.
If you are tired of the current insurance system, then you need to begin contacting our elected officials, and demand that our current auto insurance system be modified, so that good drivers automatically receive 'roll overs' of their insurance for past good driving. Your thoughts?

United States experiencing mysterious odors

The reports of mysterious odors are popping up all over the United States. New York City experienced an odor with no known origin earlier this year, creating somewhat of a panic with the citizens, which is understandable in these terror times. Connecticut has had there share of an enigma fragrance, with no origin ever discovered. Even as far North as Alaska, an odor with no known host was evident to citizens and public officials alike. There are countless other locations throughout the U.S. that has had mystery scents make a guest appearance with no known cause. Could these odors be tests by the U.S. Government, to study the paths in which they take, so as to know where a real toxic cloud would go if a dirty bomb was ever set off by terrorists? How far fetched is it for the security agencies to perform tests in real cities, so as to better prepare for a real threat? It is better to know the path that a toxic cloud would travel, so as to minimize casualties. However, if in fact, these non-toxic odors are created by our government, they could at least inform the city officials, so that the citizens could be notified prior to testing, to ease fears that is not surprisingly caused by it. If these smells are not due to government tests, then someone undesirable may be doing tests of their own. Also, not far fetched, is terror cells performing their own tests, to track the pattern that a dirty bomb would make if detonated. Whatever the creator of these odors, it is not known to the public or even city officials. Do you have any theories?

Investigations of government officials are on the rise

It has become normal lately to turn on the news and observe that an investigation into the behavior of an elected official has opened up. I am all for investigating allegations of wrong-doings by our elected leaders, even if the allegations turn out unfounded, because everytime an investigation becomes active, it reminds our officials that they are not above the law, and that their main concern should not be personal gain; it is to represent the will of the people. All too often, a person voted into office will begin to lose sight of why they were put into office, and just the hint of an impending investigation, will usually bring that person back to their true purpose of serving in public office. One representative here in Alaska, was recently found guilty on numerous charges of abusing his public position by taking bribes and six other felony charges. And even Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska is being investigated by the F.B.I. for alledgally using his position for personal gain. Next time you hear about an investigation into the behavior of a public official, just take comfort that every public official is taking notice and use it as a wake up call for themselves. Please keep in mind, that it should not matter which political party you prefer; corruption is rampant in all parties, and it should all be weeded out. Your thoughts?

WHITE BOXCARS and CAMP CARS

Mojave, Ca.- Chicago Hts., Ill. - Albion, Pa. - Portland, Oregon: Patriots who watch the railroads for evidence of UN military vehicles and tanks have reported a new development in the concentration camp program for America. In September 1998, spotters noticed boxcars painted white showing up out west. Since all rail cars have to have a special number on the side in order to be routed to their destination, these boxcars stood out like a sore thumb. Typically, a boxcar would have a number like CSXT 119626, for example. CSXT is a "reporting mark" indicating that the railroad that owns the car is CSX Transportation. Burlington Northern - Santa Fe railroad is BNSF, Union Tank Car is UTLX, et cetera.

An employee of a manufacturer of the boxcars spoke on condition of anonymity about the boxcars. This company, Gunderson Rail Car Co., received a contract to build over 400 boxcars for transporting prisoners. They have shackles and racks built inside by another company before they are shipped out. The boxcars were ordered and paid for by the UN, and have been shipped to parts unknown for over a year now. These prisoner boxcars are being manufactured by several companies like Gunderson, including Thrall Railcar, but are not limited to these companies. Although coincidental, the name "Thrall" means "slave". Or maybe it isn't a coincidence?

Another railcar that seems to be popping up all over the USA is the old fashioned "camp car" which was used for maintenance-of-way crews to live in while out repairing railroad tracks. These resemble mobile homes and are anchored to the frames of flat cars. These camp cars are designed to accommodate six to eight railroad workers but could hold over two dozen persons if it were used to transport passengers. The problem with these is that most railroads today have all but eliminated the use of these expensive-to-maintain railcars in favor of cheap motels. So, all these railcars have to go somewhere, why not give them to the UN? It seems that they have been going to Pennsylvania, California, and Canada to be "retrofitted" for prisoner transport. Especially revealing is the fact that these "camp cars" are still being made when railroads don't use them much anymore; and there can be only one possible explanation for the new demand for these railcars.

Most recently, the retrofitted auto carriers have been added to the list of "prisoner boxcars". These railcars are actually not boxcars. These are articulated A-B type units with a rubber "accordion" vestibule connecting them and small square ventilation vents perforated in the smooth sheet metal. Although these railcars are painted white, they do have normal railroad markings on them such as "Kansas City Southern", suggesting that they may be recouping the investment in them by using them for moving livestock such as pigs and cattle. Cattle today, and chattel tomorrow.

Many of the detention facilities and concentration camps have railheads, which allow for massed prisoner transport. The identification of these boxcars closes the loop on this subject, and illustrates just how complete the plans for detention have become.

Internet PayDay Loans are hazardous to your sanity and bank account

We have all seen the advertisements on television, and in pop-up ads online; "Quick Cash!!!" and "All you need is a job, checking account and a pulse." The pulse part is my added sarcasm. Anyway, there are thousands of Internet payday loan companies to choose from if you are ever in need of extra cash; but is it truly worth the heartache. Let me run the most typical scenario by you, and you will see what I mean. I have done a lot of research on this industry, and I must say, if you are not informed of your state laws, you can be screwed out of your money, and it won't end. Now, back to the most typical scenarios that consumers face when seeking an online loan. First you will be required to fill out an online form, with information such as your employment, employment address and phone number, supervisor, your pay schedule, and if you have direct deposit for your paychecks. Then they will have you submit this form by clicking 'submit'. In a few moments, in some cases longer, you will receive an approval in your email inbox. Within a day or two, sometimes three, you will see that this company deposited the amount requested into your checking account. The first payment on this loan will usually be due within a week or two, depending on the company. However, and this is where it starts to get ugly, monetarily speaking. The first payment due is just the interest and fees. The second payment due is also just for the interest and fees, and on and on it goes. Lets say you applied for three hundred dollars. If you do not completely repay this in the first week, this three hundred dollars can turn into three thousand dollars. How can these loan companies charge so much in interest and fees on such a small loan? Simply put, legally they can not, but most consumers, you and I, are not informed of the laws that govern these online crooks. You see, every state has laws, which differ from state to state, but are similar in that they protect the consumer. These laws control how much you must pay back on a loan and how many times a loan company can allow you to 'roll over' a loan. Also, most Internet payday loan companies are not even licensed to operate in most states, or licensed to collect in those states. Lets say you borrowed that three hundred dollars again, but this time you pay back only what is legally allowed. You would end up paying back about three hundred and sixty dollars. That is a huge difference from the original three thousand dollars. The difference is information. The difference is knowing the laws and consumer protection acts. If you currently have online loans which you are still paying on or gave up paying (defaulting) all together, do not worry. Please check with your state laws regarding online loans. If an online loan company is ripping off your bank account by taking money without authorization, then tell your bank to cease any debits from your account, and report the loan company, immediately to the Attorney General Office of your state, as well as the AGO of the loan companies state. You will be surprised at how many online loan companies are already under investigation for stealing, lying, deceiving consumers and so on. If you can stay away from online loans, then that would be great, but if you must apply for one, get informed. Research to see if the online loan company is licensed to even operate in your state. Also, if you do not pay back what you owe, you can not be arrested, like some collection companies try to threaten consumers with. You also are not committing any white collar crimes, another tactic used to scare people into wiring them money. Most tactics used to collect are illegal. If you are ever contacted by either a loan company or collection company, and they threaten arrest or accuse you of any crimes, they are the ones violating the laws. Please get informed. Personal freedoms taken in the guise of health concerns

Recently, here within my municipality, there was a vote to determine whether or not a smoking ban in bars should be overturned. The ban was not overturned, and it was to my dismay. The government will always pretend that the health concerns of it's people is number one to them. What most people fail to realize is that this is how "Big Brother" sneaks taking of personal freedoms without raising any eyebrows. If you can get the masses to believe that to ban smoking in bars will increase a safer community, then easily fooled voters will endorse it. California has long outlawed smoking in bars, as well as Washington state. Now, here in the Last Frontier, the voters allowed their rights to be taken, with the votes to enforce it. The government usually starts with "health concern" issues, then as the people become accustomed to having more and more rights stolen, in the name of saving lives, no one really notices any differences in their daily lives. Next, the government will control how many drinks one may consume at a bar, and then will control when you may leave your house, or even what you do in your own home. It may sound far fetched, but it is happening, slowly and methodically. Most non-smokers who understand what is happening, voted against the smoking ban, because they know that it only needs to start with one personal freedom to open the door for more rights to be robbed from us. Is there anyone who agrees with me, or am I one of few who sees what is happening?

The thieves pre-cut a generic house key, insert it part way into your lock, and make small "bumping" taps on the key, making it conform to the internal tumbler of your lock, thus allowing the lock to be rendered unlocked. Don't place full trust in baggage handlers

Everyone who has ever flown, knows that just getting aboard the plane requires extensive screening, pat downs, explosive swab tests and many other, rather time consuming security procedures. How can one bypass all of those intrusive methods? Simply get a job as a baggage handler. That is all it takes to become able to carry weapons onto an airplane. Recently, thanks to an anonymous tip, the feds were able to intercept more than a dozen guns being transported on a passenger plane. The individuals who brought the weapons on board were employed as baggage handlers, using their uniforms and security badges to go around the security screening. In this day and age, you would think that this criminal act would have been forseen by the federal authorities, but just like our countries borders, no one seems to truly want security of our land or our skies. How would you feel if you typed a new post into your website, and discovered shortly after completing it, that it was erased? What if you uploaded a controversial video onto a host site, only to see that it was quickly rejected? Would these two examples be infringing on your Constitutional rights? I believe so. As do most citizens of the World. My brothers and sisters of the internet, please open your eyes to what is transpiring slowly and methodically to control what information is placed onto the internet. The one main reason why some of our elected leaders feel that there should be control over our usage, is because no one can edit or shape the information to keep the truth from being spread. We can spread information so fast and to so many, and there is nothing preventing us from seeing with our own eyes, the truths of the real World. The television media are owned and controlled by agenda driven individuals, who basically control our government officials. Do not allow the slow raping of our rights to sneak up on you. Get involved in fighting the reigns which are being queitly placed upon us. When you sit down at the dinner table, do you look at your food and wonder what is actually in it? I doubt it. I personally don't spend a lot of time pondering what the chicken ate while being fattened up for slaughter. I also do not spend much time researching who controls how much I paid for the chicken. The same goes for the
vegetables that accompany the meaty meal. Do I scrutinize what was used to fertilize the lettuce which makes up the 90 percent of the salad in the bowl? Not really. The reason that consumers do not make a big deal about how corporations control how much we spend or what we consume is simply due to the fact that we have much more important things to concern ourselves with in life, exactly what the corporations have hoped for. Next time that you are shopping, take a fraction of a minute to think about what you are purchasing and what decisions were made to allow the product to end up in the aisle at the store. Are you being forced to work on Christmas?

If you are, join the many millions of Americans who are also finding it hard to spend Christmas with their families. I find it disgusting to witness corporations placing a few dollars above the morale of their employees. I am sure that a small percentage of the employees volunteered to work on Christmas day, but I can't accept that all employees chose to work on the one day out of the year when families are suppose to be together. I researched a few nation-wide chains, and was somewhat perturbed at my findings. Walgreen's, a well-known store to most Americans, I find from their own website, that their non-24 hour stores will be open from 9 a.m until 6 p.m. on Christmas. Blockbuster video stores, I found on Forbes.com, will also force their employees to be apart from their families. Another famous chain; Starbucks, will have not all, but most stores open on Christmas, which I found out at Starbucks gossip on the web. I can understand the emergency services workers being on duty during the holidays, at least operating on a skeleton crew, but stores that only provide tangible goods? I think that the three corporations mentioned
above can afford to miss a day of being open. I am sure that there are countless stores, throughout America, that are open on Christmas day. Can you believe that there is someone out there who attacked a bus driver for wearing a Santa hat? This bus driver has worn this festive headgear ever since he worked for the bus company. Some people in our society truly must have nothing else to do, but to spread their misery to others. It is fine when we see a Muslim wearing their headgear, it is fine when we see a Jew wearing their headgear, it is fine when we see the Pope wearing his special hat, but someone gets all upset because a bus driver is wearing a holiday Santa hat? This is how our country is slowly becoming 'zombie like'. We are slowly trying to be changed, so that we are all on the same level. We are slowly being shaped to be alike, and to be politically correct as to not offend anyone. How dare you if you say "Merry Christmas" and someone is offended. How dare you wear a Santa hat to celebrate the holidays. I suppose the Islamic Fundamentalists are laughing at our stupidity, and can not wait until their Global Jihad has taken foot in our country, and slowly it is happening. Wake up Americans. How disgusting is this? This loser, James Baker, is committing in my book, a treasonous act. Do any of our American representatives think this also? Has our mainstream media been mentioning this fact? "No" to both questions. The reason is corruption. Point blank. James Baker has had his hand in the cookie jar of ex-presidents and of Saudi Arabia for a very long time. Hell, this guy did all that he could to push the Dubai deal through. The media, at least the mainstream media, is owned and controlled by men who have agendas. The agendas are to strip this country of any morals, any values and pride that we still, barely cling to. In these times, money is tight for most families. With rising costs of everything, parents are not able to purchase all of the things that a child may want. Most parents can relate to saying "no" to their child when asked to buy them a toy. If we had tons of money, we would make purchase of anything that our children request. In the past decade though, marketers of toys and places such as McDonald's, Movie theaters and everything else that cater to children, have recruited psychologists and child development experts to research how to target the children directly, taking mom and dad out of the equation altogether, well, except for the money aspect. Children are being taught by the media that they deserve everything and owe nothing. Kids today feel that they are entitled to make monetary decisions within the family. Parents are suppose to feel bad if they do not or can not purchase toys, or view a children's movie playing at the local theater. In the end though, who do we really blame? Ourselves? For allowing children to play too much of a role in money matters? Or do we blame the advertisers? Constantly reminding our children that they must have the newest toy or they are nothing without it. Is it any surprise that the three biggest car manufacturers here in America, are losing ground to other competitors? With oil and gas prices steadily rising, you would think that the producers of the combustion engine would begin creating fuel efficient vehicles. I wonder what the stock holders are thinking, in regards to a less valuable stock. It is time that Americans hold these car makers responsible with producing vehicles that consume less gasoline, as to make life for driver's more cost-friendly. Perhaps we should stop buying these gas guzzlers, to send a message to these corporations. If I have a choice between a car that uses less gas, and a car that uses more gas, I think we all know what car would be the chosen one. What are they paying thier marketing and research personnel? Hopefully, nothing. When Americans truly get tired of getting put through the ringer, then maybe we will stop buying the fuel guzzlers and begin buying all hybrids or fuel efficient vehicles. Next time there is a local or national election, be sure to thank all of the deceased voters who took the time to make it to the polls. There are countless absentee ballots sent in under the names of people who are still registered voters, but are dead. Think of all of the politicians who are now in public office, that legally should not be. There is no true system that investigates this defrauding. So, the next time you vote, be sure to see if any of your deceased relatives are still registered, and send those ballots on in. That was a joke. Now I can understand how some unworthy people became public servants.

Our so-called representatives, who we elected to amplify our voices are now employing technology to block our emails. Please, take some time to sign the petition telling these politicians to not ignore our voices. Our tax dollars also pay for this software which is meant to block bulk emails from constituents. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but, I am finding it harder and harder to keep even a quarter tank of gas in my car. Now, the Saudis warn that oil prices will get even higher. Why the hell has the United States Government not demand that we begin selling hybrids or ethanol fueled vehicles? The citizens of this country are getting screwed. I wish that I could have everyone not purchase gas for a month, and send a message to the oil gods. We are being used and abused. I understand that business is to make a profit, but, at who's expense? Why should people choose between fuel for their car and a birthday present for their child? Imagine not being able to protect your family

What if your town or city was hit with a natural disaster? Now, while in the meantime, there are hundreds of people who want your food, your water, and possibly your loved ones. How will you defend yourself? Most people, like myself, would depend on a firearm to increase the chances of survival. Now, what if law enforcement officials can confiscate your protection in the event of a natural disaster aftermath? They take your weapon, then leave you vulnerable to home invasions, looting, rape, and murder. There are actually people in this country who feel that your weapon should be taken away during a disaster. The Katrina disaster was the first time that law enforcement began taking weapons from residents. Not the criminals, just the holed-up residents protecting their homes. Many 2nd Amendment supporters ask that we all write to our mayors of our cities and towns, requesting that they uphold our right to bear arms in the event of a natural disaster. This issue should be viewed the same, no matter what party you belong to. This is your life on the line, your families lives. Your thoughts?

Have you ever sat back and wondered how cures for cancer, AIDS, and other diseases, seem to be so elusive to the massive amount of funding that goes into the researching for cures? If you have, than you most likely figured it out, that when a disease is cured, there is no money made by pharmaceutical companies. Sure, they make money initially by the buying of vaccines, but when everyone is cured, the money ceases to be made. I am not saying that the cures are purposely missed, but it makes you think. Treatments for diseases are the big money maker for pharmaceutical companies. Billions of dollars a year enter the pockets of these giants. Would greedy people who head these companies allow suffering of millions of people, just to be extremely rich? Your thoughts?

We have been dealing with ridiculous gas and oil prices for quite awhile now. I can tell you that this trend will last a very long time, if not forever. The American car makers have really fell behind on manufacturing low cunsumption vehicles. How many hybrids have been made here in the United States? Not enough to compete with overseas car makers. How could we allow foreign factories to get the jump on us in dealing with gas guzzling vehicles? The only way to kick the U.S. car makers in the ass, and to get them competitive, is to stop buying Sport Utility Vehicles. An ex-postal worker went on a shooting rampage, in Santa Barbara, California. Utilizing a 9mm handgun, she killed several, wounding one other, before shooting herself fatally. The authorities have not yet released the killers name or cicumstances of her removal from work two years prior. This has been the deadliest workplace act ever carried out by a woman. Most cases involve men, due to men defining themselves by what they do for a living. When a male no longer has a 'definition' of himself, this causes confusion and anger in some men, causing a few to 'get back' at their former employer. Have you ever watched the news, covering something deadly, but you don't worry, because the problem is half a World away? I think that is how Americans view the bird flu. Yes, its way over there in Asia, so why worry? Well, an Asian who has been infected can easily board a plane and be in your town within a day. What prevents such a person from entering your town? Nothing. One may not even know that they are infected. Can you catch it from a human? The research so far says yes. There is one way to avoid any contact with an infected person, and that is to move to Antarctica. Well, unless the penguins there are infected.
There is also another way that the bird flu can reach you, and that is through terroristic tactics. Biohazards are not that difficult to create, anyone with a child's chemistry set can do it. The bird flu causes respiratory failure. You would not know for at least four days that you have been infected. By the time you began showing symtoms, retracing the source would be difficult. The Director of the World Health Organization stated that a pandemic of the bird flu has a 100% chance of occurring, "it will happen." I do not have an answer to how to avoid this problem, just making people aware, that nature seems to always show that we humans truly are not in charge.

I have noticed a growing trend among our children. They lack empathy and remorse, more than ever. The authorities have two suspects in custody in Florida, due to them beating three homeless men, killing one. Suspects Brian Hooks,18 and 17 year old Thomas Daugherty were caught on video beating homeless men, who were defenseless. The suspects utilized boards and other weapons on the men. I feel that most children, nowadays, lack respect and tolerence of living beings. They are more prone to prey upon weaker subjects. Morals are no longer implemented in many households, and this will result in lack of responsibilty for actions. We are headed for a dangerous society in about 20 years, perhaps less. Your thoughts.

I can not fathom what the many news channels were thinking, when they reported to the World, unofficial statements. "All 12 minors have been found alive!!!" Did they hear this news from the officials? Perhaps the rescuers? No. They heard it from a man, who heard it from a man...etc. How on Earth can the news channels expect the public to trust any of them? Not that many people did, but this sure did not help with a confidence boost. I was switching between different channels to get different aspects of the live coverage, when Rita Cosby, just began chanting, "they're alive, they're alive". I was very happy to hear that, and thought, "wow, this is a miracle." I awoke the next morning to see how they were all doing, only to be shocked to hear the truth. They all, except one, had perished. I was outraged at being 'tricked', and could not imagine the level of grief and anger the victims families were experiencing. Terrible way to learn that we really can't trust all that we hear, even on American news.

Blackwater patrolling American streets

Blackwater security services has been hired by The Department of Homeland Security. Their primary mission is to enforce laws in New Orleans. This is the same outfit which were performing security missions in Iraq, most memorably Fallujah. Four of these security personnel were killed by insurgents. These security forces are not police or military personnel, these are civilians with either prior military service or law enforcement experience. The Blackwater employees, whom are heavily armed and aggressive, have claimed to be assisting with evacuation efforts. Many citizens have reported observing these mercenaries ordering reporters to stop video taping them. They have also been reported to have said "these are our streets now". Is this not a scary situation? Civilians, given police duties, but not the same rules of conduct. One Blackwater security employee expressed to reporters that this is a new trend, and America will see alot more private organizations dealing with homeland issues. The Department of Homeland Security has recently denied having had contracted Blackwater to assist in their 'mission', however, many Blackwater employees admit that, indeed, they were hired out by Homeland Security. This is not right, and needs to be addressed immediately. What do you think?

Van Der Sloot freed when no one is looking

Did you see the live video of Joran Van Der Sloot walking out of the Aruban jail? If not, you are part of the vast majority who were focused on Hurricane Katrina. The Dutch 18 year old was freed and is now in Holland. The Aruban Government utilized Katrina as a smoke screen to release Van Der Sloot with out much news coverage. I am not implying whether or not the young man is guilty, I am just exhibiting how the Katrina disaster was used to help conceal Aruban officials actions without much attention. Evidence must be presented in any murder/missing case, and if it is not fulfilled, then the accused must be released. It is a shame that Natalie Halloway is filed as an unknown status, but prosecuters must show some sort of indisputable evidence pointing to the suspect(s) guilt. Nothing concrete was ever presented, therefore, accused Van Der Sloot walked out free and clear. What are your thoughts?

People to be forced out of New Orleans, dragged if need be

The ever wonderful mayor, of the now under water, New Orleans, has issued an order to the police. They must now enforce a mandatory clear-out of it's citizens. Is that not the best irony you ever heard. You can stay and be slammed by a category 4 hurricane, but after, you must leave. That mayor must be the least intelligent public official, and thats not a high standard. Most people refused to leave their pets behind, and I for one do not blame them. A pet is a member of the family. To abandon a pet would cause immense guilt to the owner and possible death for the animal. I understand that the governments main concern are the human lives, but if a person wants to stay for their pet, by all means, do so. Other people want to stay because they have nothing else to go to. Their home, underwater or not, is all they have known. So far, the military are not making people leave, it is only the local police enforcing this. The military are only providing humanitarian aid. All I can say is this; these people made a decision, and the risks are known to them, and if they want to take a chance and stay, then let them be.

Battle to blame will be nasty

I can't wait to witness the nastiness which will take place, once everybody begins to blame the other for the slow response to Katrina. The mayor of New Orleans blames everyone, but himself. The local authorities do have a responsibility to do what they can to assist their people before a disaster strikes. The Governor, or state level, also have a responsibility to provide National Guard troops and assist the state in emergency procedures. The federal level also have a responsibility to assist state and local governments. So, what does this all mean? Every damn official, from Mayors to President, are to blame. I am sure though, that no one will accept responsibilty. That is the way of our elected officials. Remember that next time you vote.

Yes, someone is to blame for the slow response to assist Katrina victims, but
lets concentrate on doing all we can for the survivors. We can string someone up from the gallos later, after each and every person has been taken cared of. Survivors are not concerned about punishing anyone, their only concerned about their families and a place to live. So, we should focus all of our attention to the helping of the victims right now, and later we will attend to the guilty party or parties.

Imagine having nothing left to call home. Imagine not having anything to show for your years of being on this Earth. Now imagine watching your children slowly dying, from dehydration, starvation and sickness, and not being able to do one thing to help them. Water is all they want. Water is all they need. Water is the gold at the end of their rainbow. While we are unaffected by Hurricane Katrina, we flip through the channels, crying about nothing good being on, while there are people, right now, crying for missing loved ones and dying slow deaths. I ask all well- to- do people and famous people with alot of wasted money to give to reputable charities today. All famous people who were against the war in Iraq, should now step up to the plate and stand on the forfront of this disaster. Even Sri Lanka donated $25,000 to aid the U.S., lets act like these people struck by Katrina are our relatives who need us. We are humans, lets behave like it.

Hurricane Katrina was a kick to the groin for America. I hope the best to all involved. This past hurricane brings to mind all other natural occurences which take place all over the world. You all should have some sort of survival pack/kit and a first aid kit. If you live in an earthquake zone, volcano zone, tornado, hurricane...etc. What you do to prepare will pay off if you should ever find you and your family are involved in any emergency situation. I am truly saddened by the individuals who compound disaster by looting. Countless families are without homes right now. What better way to assist than by stealing anything not nailed down. I was disgusted by news videos of these heartless thieves who think that they deserve 'free' things. They were all smiling, directly into the cameras. I hope that all prosecuters utilize the videos to bring charges against them all. It is not bad enough that a natural disaster flattens and washes away cities and towns, but to see the lack of humanity in some people makes a bad situation worse. What do you think?

Government will most likely use Hurricane Katrina to raise gas prices even higher

I have not heard anything to suggest that the government will allow Hurricane Katrina to increase gas prices, but due to coverage showing oil production in the Gulf of Mexico being affected, I will predict that it will also affect our money, at the pumps. Oil production in the Gulf of Mexico accounts for 1/4 to 1/2 of U.S. oil output. I will surmise that this will be a great reason to squeeze more money out of our empty pockets. Get ready America, here it comes.

American terrorist, Eric Rudolph has been sentenced to life in prison. He offered an apology to his victims and their families. Actually, he only apologized for the Atlanta park bombing. He totally avoided the victims of his abortion clinic bombings. This lunatic should be held at the same level as any foreign terrorists. Taking the lives of innocent people is becoming almost acceptable to our judicial system, or at least to some of the judges and juries which decide the fate of many murderers in our country. BTK Killer deserves same fate as his victims

Dennis Rader, known to America as The BTK killer, was sentenced today to 10 life sentences. He still did not receive what he deserves. He should be bound, and the victims relatives should be able to exact upon him the same treatment that he gave. The families will live out their lives with a void, the hole left after their loved ones were taken from them by this remorseless, cocky, sick bastard. I am sure it took so much control to keep from hopping over the court wall and beating the crap out of him before being tackled by the sheriffs. My control would have been tested if I were a family member. Killers get off way too easy. He will now enjoy, courtesy of our tax dollars, three meals a day, free television and free housing. I can only hope that the prisoners who will reside with Dennis Rader, will do to him what he deserves.

Women pedophiles on the rise

Have you noticed how women are increasingly being reported as sexual predators? Its true, the trend has been more and more prevalant on the news. This shows that women want gender equality, in all aspects. That was a joke. What is not a joke is that these women who prey upon our children are receiving less jail time than their male counterparts. If a man has sex with a 15 or 16 year old girl, we Americans would want him castrated or even killed. When an attractive, young woman behaves in the same manner, our courts hand out tiny sentences to them. What is nine months in jail for a sexual predator? That is an outrage. Can you beleive that some of the victims families in the women cases did not even seek prosecution? Only after the state where the crimes were committed pressed charges did any prosecution take place. These small sentences for women for committing the same crime as male pedophiles is crazy. We should all be asking for judges resignations who preside over these cases. I am all for gender equality, but one should not be able to pick and choose when equality can be applied, or not.

We humans need to share a hobby

I see violence towards one another on every news channel that I turn to. I sometimes am astounded by our discoveries, but I soon am greatly dissappointed when I observe how cruel we are to our fellow man, in every country of this small Earth. We humans must share this rock, like it or not. I am not certain how or why humans are bent on hurting and killing each other. What I propose we humans do to occupy our time is to combine our intelligence and resources to explore the final frontier, SPACE. We would not be prone to kill each other if we all had a common goal. Could you imagine how far into exploration we would be if we had begun doing this already. I know it is far-fetched, but I can dream, can't I?

Is their child more important than yours?

Your child is of no importance, at least that is what the news portrays. They usually pick out one person who turns up missing, and concentrate all of their resources on them. There are thousands of missing children in the United States, why does one child or adult take priority over all of the others? I feel that the news channels should divide up their resources and look into as many missing cases as they can afford. If my child turns up missing, I suppose I will have to add to the story to give it news worthy appeal. The news anymore seems to be all about entertainment, rather than informational. Money controls what stories will be covered, and if anyone debates that, turn on the news.

I just got off the phone with Feed the Children, and I donated twenty-five dollars to the organization. I can not believe that in one of the richest, and most compassionate countries, there are children and families going to bed at night with empty stomachs. It saddens me and angers me at the same time. I think we as a country need to stop worrying so much on our own petty gains and become concerned about our neighbors misfortunes. I would give so much if I had the resources. Why don't billionaire companies ensure that there are no hungry children in our nation. It is easy to ignore issues which do not directly affect you, but it would be so much more rewarding to just give to a legitimate organization, to assist in feeding our youth.

We need our own oil

Gas prices are astronomical, it is getting harder just to keep my tank half full. That is precisely why we, America, need to no longer be dependent upon foreign oil. Being under the thumb of Saudi oil is dangerous in many ways. First, if we do something that they do not agree with, they can stop oil shipments to our country all together. Which happened in the 70's, crippling us, and we did not learn from that. Also, in foreign relations, we have no leverage when dealing with Saudi Arabia or their 'pals'. We have to walk on egg shells, and our leaders do. I won't stray too much into certain politicians and their gain from dealing with the Saudi's, but, that also plays a role, at our expense. I live in Alaska, and understand that there is propaganda going around, stating that drilling in The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is harmful to wildlife, and that is false. Research has shown that the wildlife has actually prospered with drilling sites in their areas, due to laws which oil companies are bound to, they go beyond national guidelines. We need to stop bickering about the barren tundra, and drill for our own oil. Are we going to accept it when we are paying $5.oo a gallon? As far as I can tell, the answer is yes. Our leaders need to stop thinking about their political parties and think about the American people, who should matter most. If we continue down this road, we will have another fuel crisis in our country, then we will wish we had drilled in our own country, and depended on no one else.

Home is where the money is

Do you realize that your home may be taken away in the name of big business? Some Americans are experiencing that very thing, right here in the U.S.A., land of oppurtunity. Eminent Domain used to be reserved for Government utilization; for example, having to build a highway through your property, or utilizing your home for U.S. soldiers to be fed and to rest. Those examples seem to no longer exist, so local governments decided that it is more important to allow commercial take over of your land. Why? To get a cut from these commercial building owners in exchange for forcing people off their land, and local governments will receive more money for as long as these business's remain operating in their areas.
Some American home owners are opting to leave with a small payment, but some are standing up to these bullys. How would you react? You should ask yourselves that question. Freedoms are slowly dissappearing, and if we ignore these situations because we seem to not be affected by it, then who is to blame when one morning you awaken to the sounds of bulldozers in your yard?

Rights can be traded

Well, here I am watching the news and I am observing the rights of Americans being slowly, but surely stripped away. I am a huge fan of eliminating terrorism, but how much of our rights are we willing to trade for a small amount of peace of mind? Today we allow ourselves to be searched randomly, next we will allow police to enter our homes to make random searches based on rumors or corruption.
I could deal with bomb sniffing dogs or devices at entry points of certain public places, but I do not believe that random searches should be conducted. One reason is this; We as Americans have a freedom from illegal search and seizure. The constitution is becoming just a suggestion anymore. Judges are becoming law makers on a case by case basis and this must be stopped.
I am as American as you can get, but I do not trade my freedoms for a little added security, at least not by choice. It is forced upon us everyday, and we are becoming conditioned to it, and the scary thing is that we do not see it. It sneaks up on us all.
